The Prodigal SCAM! returns, 07/14/16

SURPRISE!

So. Ten years and a week after I posted the last Scam! comic, I present this semi-new Scam! comic. I started drawing the top three panels of this piece in July of 2006, but for whatever reason I abandoned it. Ten years later, I finished this page. It’s going to lead to a bigger story concerning what our hero has been up to for the past decade. Click on the image for a larger, readable version.

It feels great to get back into comics again. Since 2006, I have been out of the loop with sequential art (at least in terms of anything available to the public). Aside from Scam!, I’m also working on a regular series that will be announced soon.

When I look back on much of my older work, I cringe over the content. Quite a bit of offensive ignorance on my part. Though at the time I felt my intentions were good, my attempts at shock and satire fell flat. Time has turned a spotlight on these failures (at least for me), and it’s something I think about a lot. Maturity might not be apparent in the strip above (since it was started in 2006), but if I continue Scam! on a weekly basis, I do hope it better reflects the growth I’ve made as a person.

Thanks!

Happy End of March 16! I made it through another month of weekly art!
I have many more in the works for the rest of the year.
I hope you’re enjoying these, and if you can, please feel free to share.
The new piece below has an uncensored version you can view if you click on the image below.

Backnesss

yo, slowly but surely getting back to life as it was. I’ve been laying low in my new Los Angeles  home, trying to take advantage of this downtime. I’ve been working on some new comic book stories and pages, a bunch of character designs, and a few cartoon pitches. Sorry to all my friends (both L.A and Chicago) for being a such a hermit. I promise I’ll call soon. In a few I’ll post some sketchbook pages and a couple new pieces.

Also, a sneak of something I’ve been rolling on for myself (and you, of course) more details will come soon.

I’m also looking forward to updating http://fronytail.com again on a regular basis. For those that haven’t checked the site out, Fronytail is my replacement for the weekend sketch. It’s all hair based. And fun.

So that’s a little semi-update, gonna try to post more often than every few months.

Peace!

Jose

Deeds

Deeds is a Teen Heaven spin off that takes place in the same world, only hundreds of years before. Look for a weekly strip starting next week and a comic book mini-series later in the year. Yeah, 2010!

Corey Barba

There’s so much I could say about this dude, but I’ll keep it simple:
I’m still convinced Corey Barba is secretly my older brother.

Check out his blog and experience his genius.

“It’s been a long time” No. 3,000 : New Characters and Art- Edited

Hooooo! Over two months since the last update!
I’ve had a lot going on lately, sadly not as productive as I’d like to be.
Been swimming through these clouds over my head, I wonder
if it’s the weather shifts. I keep starting new scam comics, end
up trashing them before I could finish.
So, what’s the haps?

I have a new website:
www.littlebrownheart.com

I’ve been featured on www.drawn.ca
(thanks, guys! You blew my hit counter up and I couldn’t be
happier about it)

Bunch of shit is brewing in my secret skull. A couple short stories
by year’s and an original Jose G comic series, hopefully early
07. Hopefully.

Got three pages in an upcoming issue of Mad magazine. Don’t
know which one, though…

Here’s a bunch of new, original character designs.
They’re all part of the Little Brown Heart takeover.

Imitating Life: Wordless Version…

Popimagehas posted a preview of Adhouse Book’s upcoming anthology, Project: Romantic, on their website. They chose to feature my contribution, Imitating Life, for the article. You could read the story in full by following this link.
Below are the pages sans lettering. As I dove into it, I neglected to work the word ballons into the composition in the early stages of the art. Ultimately, I think I was able to work them in there pretty well.. Yet, a lot of the details, etc. were covered by dialogue. So here’s the uncut stuff….hi res.
